Hotspurs Clinch Promotion — Championship Still to Decide

BASSETERRESKELEC Garden Hotspurs produced a stunning late comeback to defeat MBT/Fast Cash Saddlers United 3-1 at The Gardens on Sunday — a result that confirms both Spurs and Lodge Patriots have clinched promotion to the SKNFA Premier League. But with the Division One championship decided by the best record at season’s end, the title race between the two promoted clubs is far from over.

For 81 goalless minutes at The Gardens, it appeared Saddlers United would hold Hotspurs to a draw. Then, in the space of sixty extraordinary seconds, the match changed completely. Sherwin Allen broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute and Tenron Henry made it two just a minute later in the 83rd.

Saddlers pulled one back through Junique Eddy in the 90th minute, briefly raising hopes of a dramatic equaliser — but Allen had the final word, converting a penalty in the 90+3rd minute to complete his brace and seal a 3-1 victory. The late flurry of goals confirmed what the table has been building toward for weeks — Spurs are returning to the Premier League.

Both Hotspurs and Lodge Patriots have now secured their places in the SKNFA Premier League next season — a remarkable achievement for two clubs that have dominated Division One from start to finish. For the players, coaching staff and supporters of both clubs, promotion is a moment to savour and celebrate.

However, the season is not yet complete. With promotion settled, what remains is the Division One Championship — awarded to the club with the best record when the final whistle blows on the last match of the season. Lodge Patriots currently lead the standings, but Hotspurs’ victory on Sunday keeps them close and the battle for the title is very much alive. Every remaining match between the two sides — and every other result — will count.
