Taiwan Navy Makes Historic Return to SKN
BASSETERRE: A Taiwan Navy training vessel berthed at Port Zante on Thursday, marking the first visit by the Taiwanese Navy to St. Kitts and Nevis in 23 years.
The goodwill visit forms part of the Taiwan Navy’s annual Midshipmen Cruising and Training Squadron mission, aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties and promoting cultural exchange with longstanding allies like the Federation.
Residents and visitors are invited to take part in a special Open Day on Friday, April 10, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Port Zante, Pier 2 (accessed via the arrival hall). Attendees will have the rare chance to board the ship, tour its facilities, meet the crew of young midshipmen, and learn about naval training, maritime operations, and Taiwan’s technological and social development.
A lively public performance and entertainment are also scheduled along Bay Road near Rams from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., adding a festive atmosphere to the day’s activities.
This visit highlights the warm and enduring friendship between St. Kitts and Nevis and Taiwan, one of the Federation’s key diplomatic partners. Over the years, Taiwan has supported numerous development projects in education, health, agriculture, and infrastructure that have directly benefited local communities.
For many Kittitians and Nevisians, especially young people, the open day offers an exciting opportunity to explore international naval life, gain insights into maritime careers, and celebrate the cultural bonds between our two nations.
Officials are encouraging families to come out and make the most of this unique experience. Note that no restroom facilities will be available onboard the vessel.
The Taiwan Navy’s return after more than two decades is a strong reminder of the value of our international partnerships in a changing world. It reinforces St. Kitts and Nevis’ commitment to diplomacy, mutual respect, and cooperation that delivers real benefits for our people.
Make sure to head down to Port Zante tomorrow — it promises to be a memorable day for the entire Federation.
