Government Announces 2026 Discounted VAT Rate Days

Basseterre — The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has released the official dates for three Discounted VAT Rate Days in 2026, giving families and consumers multiple opportunities to save on essential purchases throughout the year.

The first window is set for Friday, April 17, 2026 (Easter period). The back-to-school season will feature Friday, August 28 and Saturday, August 29, 2026. The final period falls during the Christmas season on Friday, December 11 and Saturday, December 19, 2026.

Vehicles are excluded from the discounted rate during the April and August periods but will be included in the Christmas discount days.

This initiative forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ease the cost of living, support household budgets, and stimulate local spending during key shopping seasons. Many families rely on these special days to afford school supplies, household items, appliances, and festive goods without the full VAT burden.

For parents preparing children for the new school year, the August dates offer timely relief on uniforms, books, bags, and electronics. The April window provides a pre-summer boost, while the December dates — with vehicles included — will help with larger family purchases and holiday spending.

Consumers are encouraged to plan ahead, check participating businesses, and take full advantage of the reduced rate to stretch their dollars further. Local retailers often align promotions with these days, creating even greater value for shoppers across the Federation.

This consumer-friendly measure demonstrates the government’s commitment to practical economic support that directly benefits working families, seniors, and small businesses in our communities.
