Old Road Historic Perfect Unbeaten Season
BASSETERRE – MFCR Old Road United Jets etched their names into the history books Sunday, completing an unbeaten regular season with a 3-1 victory over defending champions St. Paul’s United. Old Road becomes just the second team in the Premier League era to finish a campaign without defeat.
The dominant 16-2-0 record sees Old Road join Garden Hotspurs, who last achieved the feat in 2009, in an exclusive club of unbeaten champions. The Jets’ remarkable season included both the National Bank Group/SKNFA Premier League title and FA Cup trophy, with the playoff championship now the final piece of a potential historic treble.
Sunday’s victory not only sealed the perfect regular season but also eliminated St. Paul’s from playoff contention, ending the defending champions’ hopes of retaining their title despite an impressive nine-game winning streak. The result confirmed Development Bank St. Peters FC as the fourth and final playoff qualifier, completing the Final Four lineup.
Joining Old Road in the playoffs are Azul Cayon Rockets, Honda Newtown United, and St. Peters. Rams Village Superstars was also eliminated alongside St. Paul’s despite both teams’ strong campaigns being hampered by point deductions for disciplinary violations.
The playoff stage begins Friday, May 2, at the National Bank Group Technical Center, where the four qualified teams will battle for the championship. Old Road enters as overwhelming favorites, having dominated throughout the season with their unbeaten record and devastating attacking play.
