Martinique, Barbados Sign Cooperation Deal

Martinique and Barbados have signed a landmark cooperation agreement aimed at deepening regional integration and expanding collaboration across several key sectors.

The agreement was signed on Tuesday on the sidelines of the fifty-first CARICOM heads of government meeting in Saint Lucia by Martinique’s president of the executive council, Serge Letchimy, and Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley.

The five-year agreement establishes a framework for cooperation in areas including education, health, tourism, trade, fisheries, sport, culture, vocational training and disaster risk management.

Officials say the partnership is designed to create new opportunities for young people, strengthen economic ties, improve climate resilience and support sustainable development across the region.

The agreement also establishes a joint cooperation committee and a technical secretariat to oversee implementation, with annual reviews to measure progress and guide future projects.
