CHS Students Head To Trinidad For Arts Workshops
BASSETERRE — A group of Theatre Arts and Dance students from Cayon High School departed St. Kitts on Sunday for Trinidad and Tobago, where they will take part in a series of educational dance and theatre workshops led by regional practitioners.
The workshops are being facilitated by the Secondary Schools Dance Educators Association of Trinidad and Tobago (SSDEATT) in collaboration with IBIS TT Performers. They will focus on building students’ technical and expressive skills, practical performance techniques, and story building and storytelling, while also strengthening their preparation for their CSEC Theatre Arts and Dance School-Based Assessments (SBAs).
School officials said the trip gives students a chance to learn directly from professional performers and fellow creatives outside the traditional classroom setting, an experience they say will boost students’ confidence, broaden their artistic perspectives and expose them to regional cultural exchange.
“At Cayon High School, we continue to believe that education extends far beyond the walls of the classroom,” the school said in a statement announcing the trip. “Opportunities such as these allow our students to discover their talents, develop their craft and see where their gifts can take them.”
The students are accompanied by two teachers: Mrs. Neckles, who organized the trip and teaches Theatre Arts, and Mr. Manners, who teaches Visual Arts.
In its statement, Cayon High School wished the students and teachers a productive and enjoyable experience in Trinidad and Tobago, encouraging them to represent both the school and St. Kitts and Nevis with pride.
