Drew Congratulates 19 New Homeowners in Stapleton
BASSETERRE — Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew congratulated 19 families in Stapleton, St. Peter’s, on Thursday evening after they received keys to new homes, calling the occasion a milestone for community and family stability.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Dr. Drew told the new homeowners they “now have a place to call their own, a place to raise their children, build memories, create stability and begin building something that can be passed on to the next generation.”
As Parliamentary Representative for St. Peter’s, Dr. Drew said he took particular pride in the achievement, noting the wider benefits new homeownership brings to the community. “Every new homeowner strengthens the wider community, because strong families and secure households are at the heart of strong communities,” he said.
Dr. Drew attended the ceremony while recuperating from a recent illness. He urged the new homeowners to treat their properties with care. “I encourage you to cherish these homes, care for them, honour the responsibility that comes with ownership, and make them places of love, peace, progress and opportunity,” he said.
He described the handover as an example of tangible government action. “This is what development should feel like: real people, real families, and real change in the communities we serve,” Dr. Drew said.
The Prime Minister thanked the National Housing Corporation, the Ministry of Housing, St. Kitts Electricity Company Limited and the Water Services Department for their roles in the project. He also singled out contractors, tradesmen and workers involved in construction, many of whom are from St. Peter’s, for special appreciation.
