Nation Honours Visionaries at Annual Heroes Day Ceremony
BASSETERRE — Citizens, dignitaries, and community leaders gathered today at the National Heroes Park to honour the Federation’s greatest visionaries during the annual National Heroes Day celebrations.
The solemn observance paid tribute to the extraordinary contributions of the country’s five National Heroes: Sir Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw, Sir Caleb Azariah Paul Southwell, Sir Joseph Nathaniel France, Sir Dr. Simeon Daniel, and Sir Dr. Kennedy Alphonse Simmonds.
A central highlight of the event was the wreath-laying ceremony at the monuments of the four late national heroes. In a special gesture of respect, a bouquet was presented to Sir Dr. Kennedy Simmonds, the nation’s only living National Hero. Demonstrating inclusion and fostering national pride among the youth, students from various schools actively participated in the wreath-laying process, an initiative designed to inspire future generations through the enduring legacies of these foundational leaders.
Adding to the reverence and spirit of the occasion, the event featured a magnificent parade led by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and members of the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force. The ceremonial precision of the parade, complemented by moving performances from the Defence Force Band, infused the proceedings with deep national pride.
Through these observances, the Federation reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the enduring values of leadership, sacrifice, and unity championed by its national heroes.
