Rubio Congratulates St. Kitts and Nevis on Independence

BASSETERRE — U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has congratulated St. Kitts and Nevis on its 43rd anniversary of Independence, saying Washington values its longstanding partnership with the Federation and remains committed to strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

In a message issued to mark the anniversary, Rubio highlighted what he described as the longstanding relationship between the two nations, saying it is grounded in shared priorities aimed at advancing regional stability and economic prosperity.

The secretary of state also reflected on his visit to St. Kitts and Nevis in February, when he met with Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew and other Caribbean leaders.

According to Rubio, those discussions focused on strengthening regional cooperation to combat transnational criminal organizations, disrupt illicit trafficking and improve border security.

He said that as both countries work to address shared challenges and protect their citizens, the United States remains a steadfast partner of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Rubio concluded his message by extending best wishes to the people of the Federation. He said he looks forward to further strengthening the friendship between the two countries.

St. Kitts and Nevis gained independence from Britain on Sept. 19, 1983, and celebrated its 43rd anniversary on Saturday.
