Nevis to Host Pre-Carnival Fashion Show

NEVIS (December 5, 2010) — Local businessman and pageant enthusiast Mr. Randy Jeffers has publicly expressed his appreciation to the Nevis Island Administration, the National Carnival Committee, Winair and Carib Brewery for their sponsorship of “Sugar Mas – Oualie Experience.”

The Dec. 11 fashion show, which will be held at the Cultural Complex in Charlestown, forms part of the pre-Carnival activities that will begin on Dec. 6 and end on Dec. 16.

According to Mr. Jeffers, “this is the very first time that one of Carnival’s activities will be held on Nevis.” He added that the fashion show was originally scheduled for the Nevis Cultural Centre but as a result of the vast number of designs that will be on parade, he decided to relocate it to the Nevis Cultural Complex.

While a number of local models have been identified to participate in the event, the major highlights, as explained by Mr. Jeffers, will be appearances by the 2010 National Carnival queen contestants; Mr. Nevis Jalmyn Myers and members of the Nevis Body Building Team and the reigning Miss National Carnival, Miss Culture and Miss Caribbean Culture queens Sudeaka Francis, Verna Grant and Sandrina Harris.

Top designers from across the region including Mr. Jamal Drummond of Ahmadz Fashion on St. Croix and Mr. Kingsley Thorne of Barbados will present their designs alongside local designs from Riff Raff, Petal Designs and Brown Sugar.

The 2010-2011 National Carnival costumes of the Phun Makers, Red Devils and Mudsunami troupes coupled with a special performance by the Rhythmz Dance Theatre will also be featured to create “a true Oualie experience.”
