SKNFA Hosts D License Coaching Course

(ZIZ)– Entry level football coaches in St. Kitts and Nevis are receiving training that can help lay a solid foundation for the future of the sport.

The St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association [SKNFA] is presently hosting the CONCACAF D License Coaching Course at Football House.

SKFNA President, Anthony Johnson outlined the importance of coaches to the success of any football team.

He said, “Notwithstanding the fact that you are not, in most cases anyway, on the field of play during the game, your role is to be the instrument of success. To be the person who guides the strategy, who ensures that you achieve success by your tactics and not so much by your antics.”

CONCACAF Development Officer, Jonathan Martinez said his organization understands that there is a definite need for training evening at the coaching level.

“If you’re not taking the time to have these types of courses to educate your coach educators, it suffers…the quality of competition suffers as you continue to climb the ranks and I think this is a huge step to put the initiative on development,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the Director of Youth and Sports Geoffrey Hanley said he’s confident this course will be a significant boost for the overall development of the sport locally.

He said, “I know that this level of training that you would receive and certification will push the sport of football to another level. The young people will continue to benefit.”

A wide range of topics are being addressed, including: coaching principles, training by age, fundamentals of planning training sessions, physical training, health and security, as well as among other aspects related to youth football.

The four day course runs from May 1-4.
