Business Fair 2014

(ZIZ)– The Development Bank of St.Kitts Nevis is celebrating its 33rd anniversary this week by hosting an evening which puts the spotlight on local businesses

The bank hosted a Business Fair at Independence Square on Friday.

According to the bank’s Marketing Officer, Vern Evelyn Maynard, while the bank wanted to showcase their clients’ businesses, the fair goes beyond just that.

“We also wanna give exposure to non-clients, people who are just starting out with their small business, it might be an idea, it might be a hobby, who want to find out ‘how do I get financing?’ to expand my business or make my hobby into a business.  So we’re here to show you that it’s not a hard process,” she said.

The fair was divided into four sections: Tourism, Service, Manufacturing and Agriculture… and large and small companies got the opportunity to promote themselves to the general public.

Among them was the Sandy Point Agricultural Cooperatives Society.  Kurt Richards is the treasurer.

“Our organization does some business with the Development Bank and we were invited to take part business fair and we see it as an opportunity to make some money and also to interact and mingle with the customers and get people to know us who don’t know us already,” he said.

Kavita Francis of Kavvie’s Creative Collections thought this was a good opportunity to let everyone know about her line of decorative soaps and other products.

“Well I’ve always had a creative nature.  In the past I was doing cards, stuff with photos, and stuff like that.  I just wanted to do something different. One day I saw these beautiful soaps online and I wanted to try it.  I ordered the stuff and eventually got better,” she said.

Aside from promoting local businesses the fair also introduced the public to new financial programmes development bank is offering and officials say they hope participants and passersby will be inspired to make use of them for their business and personal needs.
