Cayon Hosts Community Festival despite challenges

JeromeIsaac-1(ZIZ)– The Cayon community will stage its 18th Green Valley community festival this weekend.

Although the festival has been around for 18 years the committee continues to face challenges.

Chairman of the festival Jerome Isaac spoke about some of these challenges.

“Anywhere where crime is people don’t want to be and that is something that took a toll on the festival. We have people coming in from all over the world for the festival on a yearly basis but when people hear about crime they tend to stay away from it,” he said.

This year the festival will host its usual parade, queen pageant and J’ouvert Jam. However there will not be a calypso competition. Instead there will be a ‘Keep It Green’ concert.

Isaac encouraged the patrons to continue to support the festival.

“I just want everyone to come out and celebrate Green Valley 18th year and have a good time with us you will see something different. Just come out and support us,” he said.

Last weekend the community hosted a motorcade and breakfast for the elderly.
