St.Kitts-Nevis wins Olympic Qualifier

ZIZ NEWSROOM, Basseterre, St.Kitts, July 26, 2011 – St.Kitts-Nevis has won the Caribbean Football Union Group D Olympic Men’s Qualifying Tournament.

Last night at Warner Park St.Kitts beat Haiti 2-1 to break the tie in point standings at the tournament.

Geral Edwards was the only scorer for Haiti, booting it in the 36th minute.

Later on Johny Joseph of Haiti scored on own goal in the 78th minute tying it at 1-1. And Javeim Blanchette broke the tie in the in the 87th minute causing the crowd to erupt in cheers.

Final score: St.Kitts-Nevis 2 – Haiti 1.

St.Kitts now advances to the next round as the winner of group D of the Men’s U-23 Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

Also on that night, Antigua and Barbuda beat St.Lucia 2-1.

Scoring for Antigua-Barbuda: Roy Gregory in the 24th minute and Elvis Thomas in the 82nd minute.

For St.Lucia Tremain Paul scored the lone goal in the 67th minute.
