Barbados crowned under 13 Champions for the second year in a row

ZIZ Sports Aug 31 2011- The Nevis under 13 cricket team was unceremoniously knocked out of the semi finals of the 10/10 segment of the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis regional 13 and under cricket tournament at Warner Park on Tuesday 30th August 2011.

Having qualified for a semi- final spot with a bye, due to their 2nd place spot in the 25 overs segment of the tournament, Nevis would have started as favourites as they came up against St. Kitts in the semi-final encounter. After all, Nevis had easily disposed of their arch rivals in the first round match of the 25 overs segment of the tournament.

However, this time around, the Kittitians had a bit of a surprise of their own. They batted their way superbly to 83 in the allotted 10 overs, belting several sixes in the process and effectively taking the wind out of the sail of the Nevisians.

The Nevisian youngsters for their part started well and were on 27 from just 3 overs. However, the Kittitian bowlers served to tighten the screws and the wheels fell off the Nevis batting and they eventually succumbed to 55 all out to send the Kittitians into wild celebrations and effectively into the finals.

Meanwhile, the Barbados team took care of the Dominicans to secure the other spot in the finals.

In the grand finale, Barbados overpowered the home team to make it a double– winning both segments of the tournament.

In the impressive closing ceremony that followed immediately after the final match, the following prizes were awarded:

Champion Country – Barbados
2nd Place Country – Nevis
3rd Place Country – St. Kitts13 & Under Team
4th Place Country – Dominica
5th Place Country – Anguilla
6th Place Country – St. Kitts Development Team
