Woman faces court for larceny of $21k by trick

HammerOfJusticeCSt Catherine, Jamaica — A woman accused of stealing $21,000 from another inside a Western Union branch had her bail extended when she appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate’s Court Tuesday.

Rhoda Smikle appeared in court on a charge of larceny by trick but entered a plea of not guilty.

It is alleged that the complainant was inside the Western Union when Smikle told her that a man was following her (the complainant).

Allegations are that the accused woman took the money from the complainant, apparently put it in a plastic bag and placed it inside the complainant’s handbag.

The complainant discovered that her money wasn’t inside the plastic bag when she later opened it to make a purchase.

Smikle is to return to court on March 3, for mention.
