Taiwanese Performers Say “Thank You”

(ZIZ News) — More than a dozen Taiwanese Youth Ambassadors are back home after bringing a taste of their home country to St. Kitts and Nevis.

The 16 performers and their support team left St. Kitts-Nevis on Saturday after two nights of performances that showcased Taiwanese culture and traditions.

Earlier that day, the students took a moment to unwind and relax at the beach. A few told the media they were happy with the reception of the St. Kitts and Nevis people.

“We got a lot of hospitality. We enjoyed it very much and love this island,” said one of the senior support team members.

Resident Taiwanese Ambassador, His Excellency George Gow Wei Chiou said these types of cultural exchanges are among the ways that Taiwan hopes to introduce other nations to their heritage and culture.

“Taiwan actually is a very tiny island state and we cannot compete with Japan, or India, or the United States. But I think most importantly is our ‘soft power’. The soft nation power is the culture and the people. Which, from the performances, you can see how energetic the young Taiwanese are. And so, I think this is what we want to present,” he said.

According to a statement, the goal of the Youth Ambassadors’ visit is not only to highlight the vitality and kindness of Taiwanese youth, but also reiterate their commitment to issues of global concern such as humanitarian aid and sustainable development.
