Soup Cafe by Unoma Allen

(ZIZ NEWS)— A young entrepreneur’s dream of providing an alternative source for healthy eating has finally come to fruition.

The Soup Cafe by Unoma Allen, which opened on Monday, offers a variety of soup options with two soups to choose from daily.

According to The Soup Cafe’s owner Unoma Allen, her business caters to persons who crave a lighter meal.

“The Soup Cafe is a lighter option… That is our tag line. It’s an entity that seeks to offer my fellow nationals a lighter option when they so feel. It’s not every day someone wants something heavy like rice and peas and the lasagne and macaroni and cheese and so forth—yes that is very satisfying but you know we suffer from ethnic fatigue and it could really wear us down. So in order to keep us light on our feet, the soup cafe is here to offer people that option,” she said.

Allen said the idea stemmed from her own need for a lighter option while in Basseterre and after research, she found that there were many persons who share the sentiment.

According to Allen, The Soup Cafe will offer traditional and non-traditional soups on the menu, along with local fruit juices.

“Because we offer soups every day, we try to go beyond the traditional goat water, chicken soup and so forth. We do include them of course, this is St. Kitts and Nevis, this is the West Indies, but we also try to extend that and offer new types,” she said.

She continued, “I like to keep the customers on their toes but at the same time I like to give them something familiar so each day we really do try to offer a vegetarian option and a meatier option; whether its meat or fish so we try to balance it and satisfy as many people as possible.”

The Soup Cafe by Unoma Allen, located in the TDC Mall is open daily from 11am to 2pm.
