Fire at Government House

(ZIZ News) — A quick response by the sentry on duty and the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services was key in containing a fire at Government House on Monday morning.

The fire in a back bedroom was discovered by the sentry during his security patrol of the property around 4:15 am.

According to a statement from Government House his immediate action and a call to the Fire and Rescue Services prevented significant damage to the property.

Governor General, His Excellency Sir S.W. Tapley Seaton was not on property but arrived shortly after being notified of the fire.

His Excellency expressed his commendation to the sentry for his vigilance and dedication to duty and to the fire services for their response and professionalism

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
