Weekes on embracing the CSME

(ZIZ News) — The Director of Trade in the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs Jasmine Weekes is calling on nationals to embrace the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).

Weekes said although people who are nationals of other CARICOM member states are allowed to come to St. Kitts to live and do business, the CSME must not be seen as a hindrance.

She said, “It’s not just a one way street. People come to St. Kitts but you also have a right to move. You can go to another member state to perform a service whether temporarily or establish a business. You can move there. You can go there and be employed so they have to see it as an opportunity for them as well and not just to see it as a hindrance and we must all welcome and embrace the CSME because it is here and it is a reality.”

The CSME was the topic of discussion earlier this week at a two day workshop for immigration officers, who Weekes referred to as the first line of contact for persons entering the federation.
