Bus Stop Regulations Implemented

Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 1, 2012 — August 1 marks the first day of the implementation of bus stop regulations by the Traffic Department.

Bus operators may be charged if they do not use the stops designated for passenger drop-offs and pick-ups.

Inspector Cromwell Henry of the Traffic Department reminded the general public and bus operators that they have begun enforcing the regulations.

“Today is August 1st, and we have been giving notice for the last two months of the implementation of the use of bus stops for bus drivers. We want to stick to our word [and] our promise and as of today, we will begin prosecution of bus operators for the non-use of designated bus stops.” He said.

Henry said feedback from the general public had been good.

He insisted that the bus stops are designated specifically for the drop off and pick up of passengers therefore parking is prohibited and also warned that private vehicles are not allowed to use the bus stops for parking or otherwise.

Bus stops are situated along the Basseterre bus route and so far bus drivers have been following the rules and passengers have been gathering at the stops. According to Inspector Cromwell Henry more bus stop signs will be erected in the near future.
