Premier Parry announces fresh general elections in Nevis

ZIZ News…Nov. 9, 2012 — The people of Nevis will return to the polls shortly to elect a new Nevis Island Administration who will serve another five year term.

In an address to the residents of St. Kitts and Nevis on Thursday evening Premier Parry announced that he has instructed His Excellency, the Governor General, to dissolve the Nevis Island Assembly effective Thursday November 8, 2012.

The Nevis Premier continued, in due course, and certainly within the constitutionally stipulated period, he shall advise further on the issuance of a writ for the calling of fresh elections and will also on that occasion reveal the recommended dated for the nomination of candidates and voting in fresh elections.

He urged all Nevisians to continue going about their business in a normal manner, as the eyes of the world are upon us and must demonstrate on this occasion our pride and maturity as a people, and portray Nevis as one of the best places on earth to live.

In his address which lasted about twelve minutes Premier Parry took the opportunity to thank the people for their prayers and other expressions of support and well wishes, as they continue to work to make Nevis the best, the very best, that it can be in these economically challenging times.

He said the people of Nevis have a perfect opportunity in these forthcoming elections, to continue the progress and accelerate the performance of government in the social and economic sectors and as was demonstrated in the United States of America two days ago, the thinking now is that you cannot and should not tinker with a system that is working.

The Premier ended by stating that he wish to have this election period concluded as early as possible.
