Antioch Baptist Church opens Theological Library

Sis Sandra Pemberton

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS: 14th JANUARY, 2013 – Following closely on the heels of its Exhibition Launch and the Watch Night service to launch the yearlong celebrations of its 50th Anniversary, the Antioch Baptist is at it again this time with the formal opening of its theological library.

In a brief ceremony, the church formally opened what is to be called the Riley Fugitt Memorial Library, so named after one of the church’s earliest benefactor and ministry partner. Earlier members of the Baptist movement will remember Bro. Fugitt, himself a Baptist pastor, as a man who literally gave his life for the local Baptist movement to the extent that he eventually resigned his ministry and moved to St. Kitts for a two year hiatus in order to assist in the spread of the gospel. Bro Fugitt, who hailed from Clyde Texas in the USA, passed away in 2002 at the age of 84 years.

In outlining the purpose of the library, Pastor Lincoln Connor made it clear that this is the first phase towards the formation of a leadership and theological institute that will be dedicated to the training and equipping of church leaders for ministry.

Sis Sandra Pemberton, church librarian, informed those in attendance that preparations for the library began in August of 2012, and with the assistance of members of the Baptist youth group, she was able to complete the coding, data entry and recording of books on time for the opening.

Sis Pemberton, who brings to the position over 30 years of experience, explained that the library consists of two main sections, viz.; the Bible & Theology section which includes such subject areas as Evangelism, Theology, Church Administration, Baptist Work and Doctrine while the General section includes areas as Leadership, Family Life, Relationship and Counselling.

Membership in the library is open to everyone who worships at the Antioch Baptist Church and the opening hours are set to coincide with various church activities and the opening hours of the church’s office.
