Kittitian Wins First Ever Taiwan ICDF 2018 TICA Talent Competition

Stephen Richards, a computer science and information engineering student at the National Dong HWA University in Taiwan and a national of St. Kitts and Nevis was announced the winner of the first ever Taiwan ICDF 2018 TICA talent competition over the weekend.

Richards performed a medley of upbeat island themed hits including crowd favourite “Fly” by Soca artiste Destra during his steelpan rendition on Saturday that prompted a roar of applause from the interactive audience.

The crowd could also be seen dancing, singing and celebrating with flags during Stephen’s performance.
In an interview with ZIZ, Richards said it was an easy decision for him to play the steel pan for the competition since he has been playing the instrument since the late 90’s.

Richards also said it was an honour representing his school and his home country St. Kitts and Nevis.

At the end of his performance, Richards was presented with a cheque of 2 thousand Taiwanese dollars.

He said it was also a “bittersweet moment” for him as this is his final year at the university.
