On Thursday, ZIZ along with other media representatives from around the world, met with His Excellency Joseph Wu in Taipei City to engage in discussions about the diplomatic relations between Taiwan’s allied nations.

The courtesy call comes after 15 of 17 diplomatic allies spoke in favour of (ROC) Taiwan’s participation at the 72nd session of the World Health Assembly (WHA) at UN Headquarters in Geneva. The federation of St. Kitts and Nevis was among the list of Taiwan’s diplomatic allies who spoke on behalf of Taiwan during the plenary session of the annual meeting.

During his presentation, Minister of Health on St. Kitts, the Hon. Eugene Hamilton, used the opportunity to advocate on behalf of the government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis for the inclusion of Taiwan as an observer to the WHA.

His Excellency Joseph Wu said it is extremely important for Taiwan’s diplomatic allies to represent the democratic state whilst political turmoil brews between the country and the People’s Republic of China.

Dr. Wu then used the opportunity to express his gratitude to all allies who continue to engage in bilateral discussions with Taiwan and continue to support the country’s bid to regain observer status in the World Health Assembly.

At the end of the official visit, His Excellency Joseph Wu took time to take photos and converse with each guest from the various countries including St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, Palau, Marshall Islands, Belize, Eswatini, Nauru and many other media representatives.

His Excellency Joseph Wu was also scheduled to pay an official visit to St. Kitts and Nevis on Tuesday May 28 2019.
