Pub edges Youth to three- peat in the Green Valley League

FootballFilePhotoA(Sports Page) Green Valley Pub rode their luck all the way to their third straight championship in the Green Valley League when they narrowly defeated Youths 7-6 from nine penalties in a shoot-out after the one off final game ended 1-1in regulation time.

Youths were all over the Pub like white on rice and played some enterprising football. They penetrated the flanks at will and created some very good chances with incisive crosses but just could not get into the back of the net. Alexis Bedford was the main villain as he got himself into excellent positions but that final touch eluded him. Youths went on to strike to post twice and forced saves from Dexter O’loughlin.

15 minutes into the second half Movements who plays for Mantab in the national Premier League headed home Pub best chance from a well taken corner.

Youths kept up the pressure and earned a penalty in the 82nd minute. Cordell Isaac calmly slotted home the equalizer and Pub managed to hold out the remaining 8 minutes by dropping numbers behind the ball.

The penalty shootout went one way and then a next as Youths missed three out of nine kicks and Pub called upon their veteran player Trevor Jeffers to convert the decisive sudden death penalty.

So Pub won the league but this will be written down in the annals of the Green Valley League as the “Lucky Escape”.
