Green Tourism Camp Closing Ceremony

Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 2, 2019 (ZIZ News): A green tourism camp came to a close on Friday with a ceremony at the St. Kitts Eco- Park.

The camp was an initiative of the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, The Department of Environment and the St. Kitts Eco-Park.

This was the 3rd staging of the one week camp and the theme for this year was “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” with the slogan “Plastic Free is the Way to be”.

During the camp, the children participated in activities such as plant propagation, transplanting seedlings and creating projects from plastics materials. They were also taken to pump bay for a beach cleanup activity where 9 large garbage bags of trash were collected.

Permanent Secretary in The Ministry of Tourism, Carlene Henry- Morton said these initiatives engage the citizens, residents, partners and stakeholders on all levels so that they are kept informed and can participate in the best practices that the ministry is trying to promote.

Mrs. Henry- Morton then presented the children with certificates. In her closing statements Tourism Officer Juliette Brown, said the ministry hopes that the information they received will forever be engraved in their minds and that they have a greater sense of their role in preserving the environment.
