Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 21, 2019 (ZIZ News): Director of Agriculture, Melvin James is reminding the public to only buy meat that has been slaughtered at the abattoir.

Mr. James reminded the public that consuming meat from sick animals can cause severe sickness and disease in humans.

The Director of Agriculture said in cases where animals are affected by Dermatophilosis, a skin disease caused by a parasite commonly known as the tropical bont tick, meat can be consumed once the animal has been medicated, treated and nursed back to good health.
