Government seeks to improve their quality of life for disabled persons

Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 27, 2019 (ZIZ News): Borne out of the recognition that persons with disabilities in the federation are “an important constituency whose expectations mirror those of their fellow citizens and residents”, the government is seeking to improve their quality of life.

Defining disability as a limitation in the capacity to perform a given function Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Shawn Richards says improving the functional capacity of persons with disabilities in the federation has been central to the government’s engagements with these persons.

He outlined some of the improvements that has been made by the government since taking office.

Minister Richards also made mention of plans that are being made for future improvements.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that in 2015 the SIDF donated a wheelchair accessible bus to the St. Kitts Nevis Association of Persons with Disabilities.

The bus can accommodate up to 18 persons and 4 wheel chairs and has paved the way for the successful Dial-A- Ride transportation services operated by the association.
