Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 5, 2019 (ZIZ News): Premier of Nevis Hon. Mark Brantley provided an update on matters of national interest during his monthly press conference on Thursday morning.

During the conference, Premier Brantley said he was made aware of a poaching incident at Cades Bay that resulted in the death of a nesting sea turtle on August 8 2019.

Premier Brantley reminded the public that it was illegal to interfere with a nesting sea turtle and explained how killing these species could negatively impact the environment.

The Premier said he was also disappointed to learn that a second sea turtle was killed at Cades Bay between August 31 and September 2 and strongly condemned the behaviour of the poachers.

Mr. Brantley also expressed that he supports the strictest penalty of the law when persons are caught committing these illegal acts.

He said the matter was reported to the Cotton Ground Police station and hopes to see an increase in patrols at nesting beaches.

The press conference was held at the Cabinet Room on the 2nd floor of the social security building at Pinney’s Estate.
