Airport Reopening Not Dependent On Completion Of Project

RLB Airport

Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 24, 2020 (ZIZ News):The opening of the federation’s borders does not depend on the completion of phase two of the airport’s rehabilitation project.

This according to Officer in Charge of SCASPA Tuffida Stewart who says although it expected that work on Taxiway Alpha will be completed in time for October’s reopening, if that does not happen, it will not impact the airport’s reopening.

She was at the time speaking at a recent media tour of the progress being made on the project.

“We will be able to operate with the other two taxiways. It may take a little longer of we have a lot of traffic but we do not anticipate a lot of traffic as soon as the airport reopens, given some of the travel restrictions that are in place so we do not anticipate a challenge,” she said.

At present the work on Airport Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project is moving forward on an 18 hour day basis.

Due to financial constraints caused by the Covid19 pandemic, Phase 3 of the Airport Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project has been postponed to a later date.
