Amory Accused of Spending More Time Off-Island than on Nevis

CarlislePowellB[ZIZ]–Chairman of the Nevis Reformation Party [NRP] and host of Choice Radio’s “Tell Me”, the Honourable Carlisle Powell has accused Nevis’ Premier, the Honourable Vance Amory of spending more time off island than on Nevis.

Speaking on Thursday night during his radio programme, Powell described Premier Amory as “the sailor, the traveller, and the journey man.”

“He is the only leader that I know who has so much time on his hands that he spends half of his time on vacation. So salaries are due in Nevis on the 23rd and just as in the old days when Vance Amory used to abscond from Nevis and take a holiday so that he as Permanent Secretary did not have to face the music, he gone again,” he said.

According to Powell, Premier Amory’s most recent trip will cost Nevis approximately $60,000.

“Vance Amory flying first class will cost us a little under $37,000. Flying first class from St. Kitts up to the United States of America, across to London, coming back to New York and then coming back down to St. Kitts, a little less than $37,000. You add in hotels, his per diem, his meals, his telephone and as I say telephone, it’s not that he will call anybody here because sometimes he leaves [and] the members of his cabinet don’t even know where he is, don’t even answer the call and don’t call any of them. So this trip is going to run us about $60,000,” Powell explained.

A release dated Thursday May 15th indicated that the Honourable Mark Brantley has assumed the position of Acting Premier until Monday, May 26th 2014 as “Premier Amory is currently visiting several UK cities to report to citizens on developments at home.”
