Amory declares Child Month open

(ZIZ News) — Child Month 2016 was ushered in on June 1st with a statement by Premier of Nevis Hon. Vance Amory who declared the month open.

Held under the theme “Instil Values, Build Strong Children, Secure the Future”, Premier Amory said during the month parents will be encouraged to take their place in shaping the lives and future of the nation’s children.

He said, “Our goal as parents, teachers should be to raise children who are strong and resilient. We should raise them to be socially and emotionally intelligent; to be able to recover from disappointments and failures and to forge ahead throughout their lives. May we achieve the goal of making our children better people by teaching them values so that we can secure their future and the future of our country.”

The premier said several issues regarding children are expected to be addressed during the month.

“There will be national focus on our children and issues that impact their development. Such issues as discipline, teaching them to love, teaching them to have respect for themselves and respect for others. Values provide a powerful way for parents to influence their children and shield them from the adverse forces they may encounter in the outside world. When we instil values in our children we are effectively making them stronger and securing their future,” Amory said.

Activities for Child Month 2016 will include church services, talent shows, recreational days, a food fair, a torch run, and a grand parade.
