Antigua and Barbuda swamps Nevis

SylvesterJoseph-2Sports Page — A powerful Antigua and Barbuda national team completed a comprehensive victory over a much less experienced Nevis team on Saturday 11th October.

This in the three day encounter between the two teams as part of the 2014 edition of the Leewards Islands cricket tournament.

The match was played at the ET Willet Park in Nevis from Thursday 9th to Saturday 11th.

Nevis won the toss and elected to send the visitors into bat on a bright sunny day, on a hard true pitch.

The Antigua and Barbuda batsmen relished in the conditions and chalked up at impressive 338 all out.

Nevis in response could only muster 135 all out, leaving the visitors with a handsome lead of 203 runs. The Antigua and Barbuda captain, Sylvester BOUNCING Joseph, opted to put the home team back into the hot sun and even though they did not bat as well as they had done in the first innings, was still able to declare the innings closed, early on Saturday at 203 for 6.

This left the Nevis team requiring all of 407 runs for an unlikely victory, or alternatively, all of the final afternoon to save the game.

The Nevis team however, was bowled out before 4pm for a paltry 130, in their second innings.

Rakeem Cornwall, as was the case in the first innings was the main destroyer, bagging another four wicket haul to take his match tally to 8 for 46.
