Basseterre Lions Club to observe Blindness Awareness Month this month

Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 8, 2019 (ZIZ News): The Basseterre Lions Club will be celebrating Blindness Awareness Month with several activities beginning on Thursday October 10.

The activities will fall in line with World Sight Day (WSD) which is an annual day of awareness held on the second Thursday of October, to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment.

While speaking with ZIZ, President of the St. Kitts Basseterre Lions Club, Charmaine Pemberton shared a few of the activities that the club will host in honor of the blind and visually impaired on Friday October 11.

These include a Sight screening at the Tucker Clarke Primary School on Friday, a Health Walk and a Beachnic on Saturday October 12.

Pemberton said the blind and visually impaired community looks forward to the annual Beach-nic that the club organizes specifically for them.

The President said the organization will also present gifts and walking canes to the blind on Tuesday October 15. These include, braille supplies like books and reading materials.

This year, the ‘Call to Action‘ for World Sight Day is, ‘Vision First”.
