Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 5, 2019 (ZIZ News): The Ministry of Agriculture and Department of Co-operatives in collaboration with the Embassy of Argentina based in Barbados and the Inter-American Institute for Co-operation on Agriculture is working to revive beekeeping in St. Kitts and Nevis.

To this end, beekeeping experts from Argentina will be visiting the federation this week to host a beekeeping investigative mission.

Registrar of Cooperatives at the Department of Agriculture, Clyde Thompson said that many persons are unaware that a fully functional Bee Keepers Cooperative produced local honey years ago.

Thompson said however that the production of local honey in St. Kitts and Nevis has reduced significantly and has prompted the need to revive the beekeeping industry.

The local people don’t trust the imported honey because they know that the local honey is of good quality”, he said.

Ms. Liliana Galez and Ms. Elian Tourn will both conduct the beekeeping investigative mission.

The beekeeping investigative mission runs from December 9 to 13 2019.
