Black History Month Panel Discussion

Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 24th, 2021 (ZIZ News)  As Black History Month continues, the St. Kitts Nevis National Reparations Committee hosted a Black History Month panel discussion earlier this week guided by the topic “European colonization has shaped the lives of descendants of enslaved Africans. A look at how reparations will reshape lives.”

The panel was made up of Dr. Ahmed Reid, Rev. P. Allister Rawlins, Delroy “Ras Iroy” Pinney and Mrs. Antoinette Frederick- Armstrong.

In presenting on the area of culture, Ras Iroy agreed that European Colonization has shaped the lives of enslaved Africans.

Associate Professor in Caribbean History Dr. Ahmed Reid said there has been no acknowledgement of how colonialism has affected the Caribbean.

He said CARICOM’s plan for reparatory justice seeks to address this.

The Black History Month panel discussion can be viewed in its entirety on ZIZ’s Youtube channel.
