Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 30, 2020 (ZIZ News): As the country tackles the spread of the Covid-19 virus a senior official in the Ministry Of Health is reminding everyone to not neglect their immune system which can help fight of diseases.
Nutrition Surveillance Coordinator Latoya Duncan told ZIZ News that one of the best ways to boost your immune system is to eat more fruits and vegetables.
She also encouraged persons to eat more foods with Vitamin A and B and get more Vitamn D from sunlight.
She said there are also some habits that can weaken the immune system that persons should avoid.
“Persons need to avoid drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, sugar-sweetened beverages. You want to avoid drinking beverages with large amounts of sugar and drink more water instead,” she said.
As a final advisory Miss Duncan reminded persons that addition to a healthy diet, getting enough sleep and regular exercise are key to a strong immune system.
