Boosting Employment Opportunities

TimothyHarris-11(ZIZ News) — Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris has promised to provide more stable job opportunities for the Federation’s youth.

In a recent interview with ZIZ News, Dr. Harris said there are too many young people who are in what he called “temporary employment”.

He said that is not good enough.

“Too many of our young people are in jobs which are only temporary, passing jobs and we want to change that to where people can have well paying jobs so that they can maintain themselves and their families,” he said.

Dr. Harris said he has been meeting with local and overseas investors to determine how to provide employment opportunities in St. Kitts and Nevis.

He also noted that the People’s Employment Programme shows that there are a significant number of young people in need of stable jobs.

“Dealing with the PEP Programme is an important part because that reflects some four thousand plus young people who are unable to survive other than by minimum way and for us that is not good enough. That is close to fifteen percent of your working population being unemployed or in temporary working situations,” he said.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Harris and the Attorney General travelled to Antigua where they met with government officials and other investors with an interest in St. Kitts and Nevis.
