Brantley Bronx United Prevails In Intense Struggle

Sports Page — Thursday 12th September 2013 — The action continued in the Legends’ cup on Tuesday 10th September when Polstars engaged Brantley Bronx United. It was obvious from the outset that it would be a very intense game and from the starting whistle, blown by FIFA Referee, Kimbel Ward. The fans at the ET Willet Park sensed that they were in for a very hyped game. Both teams showed up with a singular purpose —To Win.

With just about three minutes into the game, the Polstars capitalized on an error by the youthful Bronx goalie and struck the back of the net. The law men were truly elated.

However, shortly thereafter, the Bronx men built up an immediate attack on the Police defence and as goalie Laborde moved forward to grab the ball, he raised his left foot and made contact with the would be striker. Referee Kimbell Ward immediately awarded a penalty, much to the displeasure of the Police team. Laborde was issued his walking ticket and had to be replaced in goal, while another player received a yellow card for showing dissent. Shaheed Tyson expertly converted the penalty to make the score line 1-all.

The Bronx men soon followed suit as one of their players was also shown red, for an illegal play and from thereon, Referee Ward had his hands full.

He probably issued more cards that evening than the Traffic Police in Charlestown would issue in an entire day.

The Lawmen were especially conspicuous in expressing dissent and Referee Ward established control of the game in the approved manner, by issuing cards where necessary.

At the end of the heated exchanges, the final scoreline was: Brantley Bronx United 5 POLSTARS 2

President of the Nevis Football Association George BRIGO Meade indicated on Thursday that there will be no matches this weekend due to activities to be held at the ET Willet Park, as part of the Independence 30 celebrations. The matches previously scheduled for this weekend will be rescheduled at the earliest opportunity.

The league will resume as per schedule on Tuesday 24th September.
