Breast Cancer Foundation Announces First Major Event

(ZIZ News) — In October, St. Kitts-Nevis will be joining the rest of the world in celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Pamela Armstrong-Hendrickson, President of the Essence of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation says her organisation will be hosting several events, with one of the biggest being the “Walk for the Cause, Race for Life” walk-a-thon.

She said, this year, it has a new level of inspiration.

“This year, more than ever, they really need to be at this walk. Reason being, there are so many new cases of Breast Cancer just for this year only. So, this will just give a highlight to the survivor, the ones who are being newly diagnosed, that we are with them, we will be with them and to stay strong,” she explained.

The public is being encouraged to be part of the walk and purchase t-shirts. The proceeds, according to Armstrong-Hendrickson, will help women get treatment.

“So we help in whatever we can. Because it’s so expensive and the fund raisers that we do are so limited, we depend on the walk so funds are in dire need,” she said.

In the past, women would get free mammograms.

The event is scheduled for Saturday October 17th. It will commence at 6am at Best Buy in Buckleys then continue along the FT Williams Highway, straight over to the last round-a-bout at Frigate Bay.
