C.A.R.E. Foundation Launches Food Bank Initiative with Emergency Relief Operation
(Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis, August 04, 2021) – One hundred and fifty families across the Federation were blessed with “baskets of kindness” from the C.A.R.E. Foundation over the August holiday weekend. The Foundation packaged and delivered food baskets that consisted of items, including fresh local vegetables, fruit, meat, and water, to provide families with full nutritious meals during these times of economic hardship and public health emergency due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“This Emergency Food Relief Operation is one of several that will take place as part of our build up to the creation of a National Food Bank,” said Ms. Nerys Dockery, President of the C.A.R.E. Foundation. “The COVID-19 pandemic has triggered a significant increase in extreme poverty and hunger world-wide and St Kitts and Nevis is no exception. With the National Food Bank Initiative, C.A.R.E. wants to be a part of providing a permanent solution to an ongoing national challenge that unfortunately, has been plaguing us for some time.” Establishing a National Food Bank system is one major C.A.R.E. project that has attracted donors, wholesale suppliers, supermarkets and local farmers who are happy to invest in the vision of alleviating poverty, providing disaster relief, and serving the most vulnerable among us.
Ms. Dockery extended special thanks to all the C.A.R.E. volunteers who worked tirelessly to prepare and deliver nutritional food baskets across all 11 Constituencies on both St. Kitts and Nevis. “This was indeed an incredible feat and could not be accomplished without our hard-working volunteers and the leadership of our Board-appointed Standing Committees,” she notes. “Hearing and seeing the tears of joy and the many messages of thanks from our beneficiaries justify the founding of C.A.R.E. and help to validate the C.A.R.E. mission. C.A.R.E. is here to bring hope to the most vulnerable among us to let them know that their community loves them and that we are with them in their time of need. We firmly believe, we are all stronger when we care,” Ms. Dockery concluded.
