CADRES’ Peter Wickham: the growth of the Douglas-led Labour Party has not been there

Principal Director of CADRES, the leading Caribbean political research company Peter Wickham, says one of the big takeaways from the recent poll in St. Kitts and Nevis is that the growth of the Labour Party has not been there since the 2015 general elections when it won only 3 out of 8 seats in St. Kitts.

Dr. Douglas appeals to the core of the Labour Party…But he hasn’t been able to grow his support outside of those people who have traditionally always supported the Labour Party…That’s one of the big takeaways from this poll, that the growth of the Labour Party has not been there, the growth of Team Unity has been pretty evident and they have been growing among people who are not necessarily the t-shirt-waving, flag-carrying members of either political party.

Mr. Wickham said, people across the region are seeing leadership as a youthful enterprise and this accounts for the change of preference of the leadership here in St. Kitts.
