Calls to Respect Our Culture

(ZIZ)–A popular religious figure in St Kitts and Nevis is calling on Kittitians and Nevisians, particularly revelers, to respect the Federation’s tradition and culture associated with carnival.

Reverend Canon Isaiah Phillip says from a religious standpoint, there is nothing wrong with music, culture and celebration.

He says, “I want you to look at carnival as a time of celebration of the best of our music, the best of our culture, the best of all that defines us as a people.”

However, he says we must not use the occasion as an excuse to destroy what the Federation has built culturally.

“Don’t use the occasion of carnival to degrade our culture, our music, our art form and the best of what defines us as a people culturally,” he says.

Reverend Phillip was speaking at Friday’s opening of Sugar Mas 42.
