Calypso and Soca Monarch registration soars

ZIZ News…Nov 3, 2011 – Chairman of the Calypso Sub-Committee of the National Carnival Committee, Mr. Sylvester Anthony, has announced that a total of seventy-one (71) individuals have registered to compete in this year’s 40/40 LIME sponsored Senior Calypso Monarch Competition.

In a statement issued to the press earlier today, Mr. Anthony stated that at the close of registration, of the seventy-one (71) registrants, thirty (30) were affiliated with Proud Sound Tent¸ thirty-two (32) with the Legends Tent and a further nine (9) indicated no tent affiliation.

The LIME Senior Calypso Monarch Finals is slated for Saturday, December 28th 2011, with the Semi-Finals to select the seven (7) participants to compete against the reigning King Pungwa slated for Thursday, December 15th 2011.

The Sub-Committee Chairman also announced that a total of fourteen (14) females have registered to compete in the Female Calypso Bacchanal Competition scheduled for Saturday, December 17th this year.

The names of the registered calypsonians were also released by the Sub-Committee Chairman and will be posted on the National Carnival Committee website and FaceBook Page.

The Chairman also announced that a meeting of all the registrants and their agents/representatives is scheduled for Saturday, November 5th 2011 at the Players Dining Room downstairs the Old Pavilion at Warner Park, from 4:00 p.m. sharp.

Registrants are asked to come to the meeting prepared to have a registration photograph taken and to discuss other matters relevant to the upcoming competition.

In related news, Chairman of the Calypso Sub-Committee of the National Carnival Committee, Mr. Sylvester Anthony, has announced that a total of forty-one (41) individuals have registered to compete in this year’s 40/40 BEAUMONT PARK sponsored Soca Monarch Competition.

The Chairman also announced that given the record number of registrants this year, two semi-finals elimination rounds will be held on Thursday, December 1st and Friday, December 2nd 2011 in order to select the nine (9) finalists who will compete against the reigning Soca Monarch King Konris at the Finals slated for Friday, December 23rd 2011.

“This year, a Groovy segment has been added to the Power Soca Monarch Competition which should make the event an even greater experience than it was last year”, the Sub-Committee Chairman promised.

The names of the registered participants were also released by the Sub-Committee Chairman and will be posted on the National Carnival Committee’s website and FaceBook Page.
