Camp for Young Diabetics

ReginaldOLoughlin-1(ZIZ News)– Plans are in the works to stage an educational camp for children with Type 1 Diabetes later this year.

Public Relations Officer for the St. Kitts Diabetes Association, Dr. Reginald O’Loughlin, said as part of their awareness efforts they’re planning to focus on children this summer.

“That will address all of those kids, especially the kids in school, with what we call Type 1 Diabetes, those who have to inject on a daily basis, in order to show them how they can live with diabetes, how they can eat, how they can prepare meals that are considered healthy for diabetics,” he said.

Dr. O’Loughlin said the camp is not only for young diabetics but their friends as well.

“So that they’re friends can know how to interrelate with their peers who are diabetic such that their peers and their friends all feel comfortable living with this particular disorder,” he said.

Dr. O’Loughlin said while plans are in the early stages, the association hopes to host the camp in May.
