Canadian Parliament Expresses Best Wishes to St. Kitts and Nevis on 39th Independence Anniversary

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 20, 2022 (SKNIS): The Speakers of the Senate and the House of Commons in Canada have extended best wishes to St. Kitts and Nevis on the occasion of the twin-island Federation’s 39th Anniversary of Independence.

In a letter dated September 19, 2022, the Honourable George J. Furey, Speaker of the Senate, and the Honourable Anthony Rota, Speaker of the House of Commons, extended the warmest congratulations to St. Kitts and Nevis’ Speaker of the National Assembly, the Honourable A. Michael Perkins, on behalf of the Parliament of Canada and all Canadians

“The importance of our close partnership is underscored through our collaboration on shared priorities and work to overcome the challenges of the COVID-19 global pandemic by creating opportunities for a sustainable economic recovery,” the letter stated.

“These global efforts have been bolstered by exchanges among legislators, who have shared their experiences and information, encouraging vital cooperation among nations.”

The Members of the Canadian Parliament said that they were looking forward to deepening relations between the law-making bodies.

“We affirm our commitment to strengthening the bonds between our parliaments by fostering our political, economic, cultural, and scientific ties,” the letter said. “Parliaments are well placed to advance the goals of peace, health, and well-being around the world. Together we can continue to build resilient institutions equipped to overcome the challenges of the day and prepare for the challenges of the future that are bound to come.”

The letter concluded by wishing the people of St. Kitts and Nevis “health and happiness” in the year ahead.
