Canadian, Russian, French and Mexican diplomats for Independence celebrations

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, SEPTEMBER 14TH 2011 (CUOPM) – Diplomats from France, Russia, Mexico, the United States and Canada will be among dignitaries and officials from overseas attending official celebrations to mark St. Kitts and Nevis’ 28th Anniversary of Independence.

The Barbados-based British High Commission has informed that a British warship, the RFA Wave Ruler will also visit from September 17th to the 20th.

Canada’s Non-Resident High Commissioner to St. Kitts and Nevis, Her Excellency Ruth Archibald; the Russian Federation’s Ambassador, His Excellency Victor Zotin; the Mexican Ambassador, His Excellency Gerardo Lozano and France’s Ambassador Her Excellency Michel Prom as well as United States Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr. Eugene Sweeney will attend official engagements including the Ceremonial Parade at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium and the Governor Genera’s Reception at Government House.

The 31,500 tonnes Fleet Tanker with a compliment of 80 officers and men is under the command of Captain Stephen Norris, who along with Lt. Commander Phil Pensford will pay courtesy calls on the Governor General, His Excellency Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian and Commander of the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force, Colonel Patrick Wallace.

A contingent from the ship is also expected to participate in the Ceremonial Parade.
