Carnival 2011/12 launched in grand style

ZIZ News…Oct 16 2011 – Carnival lovers and enthusiast are looking forward to a great carnival season following the official launch on Saturday night at Bank Street.

A huge crowd attended the event following the parade which wound its way through the streets of Basseterre starting from Victoria Road.

The launch parade featured last year’s winners including the reigning National Carnival King and Queen among others. The Folklore Troupes were also part of the colourful parade.

Meanwhile Minister with responsibility for National Carnival Hon. Marcella Liburd called for full participation of one and all to make carnival bigger and better. Liburd also appealed to the Corporate Community to come on board in their numbers and join those who are already making a contribution.

The Minister of Carnival also called on the bands to clean up their lyrics as it is a big concern for her Ministry and parents and guardians alike.

The launching ceremony saw a number of leading calypsonians from both St Kitts and Nevis performing for the appreciative crowd which included Prime Minister the Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas.

It is going to be Forty Days of National Carnival to mark the 40th Anniversary 1971 to 2011.
