CFBC Partnership to Upgrade Agriculture Studies Programmes

Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 07, 2013 (SKNIS): The Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) is currently working with the Dalhousie University and the Nova Scotia Community College in Canada to upgrade the agriculture studies curriculum through the Institutional Partnership Programme.

As a result of the partnership programme, which is a component of the CARICOM Employment for Education Project (C-EFE), a small team from Canada visited the Federation on June 05. It met with the CFBC staff, members from the Agriculture Department and other stakeholders like the TVET Council, with whom there will be interaction during the entire partnership programme.

Both staff and students from St. Kitts and Nevis were able to travel to Canada earlier this year to meet with the various colleagues from the Canadian institutions.

Principal TVET Officer Fitzroy Wilkin explained the purpose of the partnership.

“The whole objective is to help CFBC build capacity and upgrade its current agriculture programme curriculum to offer baccalaureate programs and bring more emphasis to skills-based training, develop new programmes and revise existing programmes.”

Other objectives include plans outlining how the partners will work together on occupational standards, curricula, lesson plans, assessment tools, career guidance materials, and capacity building related to leadership and competency based education and training.

This program is part of the National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Strategy by the Ministry of Education of St. Kitts and Nevis in which Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ), other types of aptitude and articulation frameworks are proposed.
